A tradition originating from Pennsylvania Dutch folklore. If a groundhog emerges from its burrow and sees its shadow, six more weeks of winter are predicted. Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania is the most famous prognosticator. The 1993 film made the holiday internationally known.
